Default FE250 vs FE290

New guy, first post: Picked up a '02 Carryall 1 w/ approximately 1800hrs, old owner thought engine was blown (knocked like mad), it ate carb plate screw and was stuck to head, didn't hurt anything so I'm running for cost of head gasket. Engine has over 130lbs compression but I seem to be chasing issues, fouled plugs, running rich, found throttle shaft worn out bottom of carb(replaced/fixed), irratic fire (coil on order), clutch faces worn out (grooves/ridges), weak fuel pump. Don't want to spend a ton of money on this thing just going to use it around the yard, I have a Polaris Sportsman 500EFI X2 as well real trail riding. Body, frame, seats all in great shape, used money that I thought would need for motor on lift kit and tire/wheel upgrade already. This thing performs better than I expected, just don't won't to keep chasing little things. I have found FE250D's for under $450 delivered, realize will be little less power and be running in Reverse, but everything is NEW. Is 1 HP that much less? Will be watching your replies.....

These conversions that run in reverse just are not that great....... the gear ratio is Sooo different between F&R. Your forward will be slow and your reverse TOOO fast and weak. IMHO

I'm going to have to disagree with the FE250 engine swap!

First off... what scottyb said!
Second... It sounds like you still have a good engine, (you didn't mention oil use/smoke)
You may... (I say... MAY) be able to get all of the stuff you need for less then that!
(depending how much work your willing to do, and how much a cart/machine shop does!)

And, you can get your cart to idle, simply by disconnecting a wire from a micro switch, and adjusting the idle up!
(although... it will still be pedal start, but, will idle, and shut off with the key)

Just some things to consiter BEFORE you make a purchase that you may regret!
