Default fuel smell in oil

Just joined first post. Just acquired a cart 94 club car carry all. It runs inconsistently sometimes will go rite when you hit the gas other times you have to pump the pedal and it will want to go but very hesitant. cleaned carb it was like med inside. drained fuel tank replaced with new fuel. new Spark plug and fuel air oil filter. the oil has a definate fuel smell. I am thinking rings or valve job. Havent got that far into it, any ideas.

did you adjust the carb after giving it a good cleaning? hows the compression? are we sure the air box is closed tightly and correctly? since the choke is before the filter not after the filter, is it on bad after it warms up or all the time?

after cleaning the carb it ran twice as fast but inconsistent meaning sometines it would go rite from the start or you would have to pump the pedal and then it would take off. as far as adjusting we tried the needle valve from all the way in to a turn at a time out to see where it or if it made a difference. between 3 - 4 turns out was best. the air filter box seems sealed there was no gasket, when it starts to putter pushing the choke in does help for a short time. help please. forgot in original post lots of blue smoke. It sat ourtside for about a year not running before we got it.

on the carb all jet should be in tight, the one on the side and the one in the middle in the bowl. there is a needle on the side by the idle screw. it amy have a anti tamper thingy on it. screw it in till it touches and back out 11/2 to 11/4 turns.
is it using oil? cause if it sat for so long, might be a set of ring took a dump, since you do have gas in the oil . check your compression, this should tell you if its rings.

the higher the better. scotty will say around 150 psi. i dont have a maunual for proper but if you are blowing fuel in oil it definlty sounds like you lost a ring or two.

Go ahead and change the oil, If it sat for a year and is smoking you might have a stuck oil ring and still have good compression.

If you want to try it, drain the oil and leave the drain plug out and a pan under it, run the piston to the bottom of the cylinder and pour some carb cleaner in the plug hole and let it sit over night, If it is stuck it might disolve enough of the gunk to free it up.
If it has been running rich (gas smell in oil) it has probably gas washed the cylinder and ruined the rings.
