1993 cc keeps running when it stops

We have a 1993 cc and when we drive it for long distances, the motor heats up and it will run backwards when we stop. What could be the problem? We have changed the oil, gave it a tune up, and re-built the carb. Not really sure what else to do. Also, does anyone know what the compression settings are?

check vent (breather) cover by the fly wheel also check carb setting for being set to lean.

Also might want to check micro switches in black box..
