Accelerator Problem
Hi all,
I am new to the forum and new to Cart world. I just purchased 2007 Gas Club Car DS. Engine starts fine when accelerator is pressed, however cart only has one speed. It either runs at the one speed or quits after letting off of the pedal. I removed the cover of the black box under seat to find accelerator cable disconnected. I attempted to re-install cable, however the cable acts like it if frozen or broke as it will not move by pushing or pulling. I understand the cable needs to be fixed or replaced, but I am totally confused as to how the cart still runs and operates at one speed approx. 5 mph or so with the cable disconnected. Can somone please explain to me how this is possible or how the whole accelerator system works on this type of cart?????? Thanks in advance! |

Thanks in advance![/QUOT The linkage on these carts is a little convoluted and ultimatley, the carb is operated from the transaxle which in turn gives a crude form of(though effective) rev limitation. Try to re-install a new cable (yours sounds buggered) This should allow the the carb to breathe properly and give your cart a little more wallop. Please respond with your findings and welcome to BGW. Let us know when the cable arrives Jason and we will help (if required) with the install. There is also an adjustment of the throttle lingage to the black box which is pretty simple but will give your cart better response. You can carry this out at the same time. We can walk you through that as well.

Chris,
I am ready to install the accelerator cable. Also I spoke with somone at Cart Parts Plus when I ordered the cable and explained that my clutch was making noises while riding and he suggested that I change the buttons in the drive clutch and therefore, I ordered a button kit and clucth puller as well. I will be attempting to accomplish the Cable, Throttle Linkage Adjustment & the Button Kit. Any guidance you can provide in these areas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jason |

I saw from another post that you have your new parts in and are ready to install. Here you go.Disconnect the battery ground then looking into the engine compartment (seat off and rear cover removed) from the the D/S you will see the black box. Remove the cover.Below and on the far side of the box is the throttle pedal actuator, it is secured on a pivot by a spring loaded sleeve, slide the sleeve toward the front of the cart and lift the cable off of the pivot. Loosen the old cable from its adjusters. The cam in the black box is now free to rotate to the point the cable can be removed from it. Be careful not to foul on the micro switch actuator arms !! Under the rear engine cover you will now remove the cable from the governor arm by "tweaking" the spring that connects it. Feed the old cable out of the guide clips from above since the springs are to big to go through them in the other direction. You will likely have to put a bend on the spring of the new cable to secure it to the governor but either way, feed the new cable down through the guides then connect the spring to the governor and secure it, using your old cable as a rough guide move the nuts on the new cable threaded portion to the approximate positions of the old ones, this will give you a starting point for later adjustment. Fit the retaining nipple to the cam, rotate it and drop the threaded adjuster into the slot and then re-attach the actuator pivot arm. The cable can now be adjusted to just take up any slack and secured at the black box. Now for a more responsive cart we go back to the actuator arm. With the black box cover still off, gently push the gas pedal and observe the action of the cam on the micro switches. Commonly there is quite a bit of pedal movement until they operate, if this is the case, loosen the nut on the actuator cable and lift it back off of the pivot, unscrew the attaching portion and test fit ( a bit of trial and error here) to find the point where the switches actuate just after the brake releases via pedal movement. re-connect everything and test. If you over adjusted it the cart will continue to run with the pedal released so a minor adjustment may be required but that's pretty much it Jason.
Good luck and let us know how it goes for you BTW, with my two finger "non" typing skillz it probably took longer to type this than it will take for you to complete the job. Chris. |

Thanks for the detailed response, I will give it my best effort and report back. Can you give any suggestions or insight on the replacement of the buttons in the drive clutch as this sounds like it might be a task. I was told I could do it and just don't want to get in over my head and tear something up or make a costly mistake?????? Thanks Jason |

Chris,
I followed the steps you laid out on the accelerator cable replacement. I have tried to adjust the the cable in small increments in both directions, however no matter what I try the cart jumps forward pretty hard as soon as I press the gas pedal. No matter what I try, I can't figure out how to get the cart to have a smooth take off? I am not sure what to do? |
