Resistor Coil Overheating
I have a 1988 Club Car. My smallest resistor coil on the left starts glowing red hot when I run the cart. Everything looks to be wired right. I have just replaced all the coils and resistor plate. What else could be causing this problem?

Re: Resistor Coil Overheating
welcome, does it do this at high speed? they are supposed to get hot thats their job when your driving slow but once you put peddle to metal it shouldn,t get hot at all...........so if your not sure try and pay attention to see if its heating up all the time........................

Re: Resistor Coil Overheating
Thank you for your repsonse. No the coil gets extremely red glowing hot at any speed. It is only the first coil that has the wire running from the motor to the coil gets hot the other coils stay cold.

Re: Resistor Coil Overheating
are all soleniods working? and are you certain its the right coil? speed resistor coils are all different as far as thickness and # of loops in the coil.....i think 1st speed is the thinest of them with 9 loops in just that coil......if everything is working right it would almost have to be the wrong coil ..........only other thing that comes to mind is that soleniod staying engaged all the time......you can try swapping soleniods to see if problem goes away thats the easiest thing to do............from left to right the 1st soleniod shouldn,t have a coil the coils should start with the 2nd soleniod...................

Re: Resistor Coil Overheating
Remove the seat bottom from the cart. Pop the cover off of the V-glide.
With the key off & cart in neutral..... Depress the gas peddle by hand and see if the wiper goes all the way to the top at full throttle. if the wiper is still touching the second to last leg at full throttle then that coil is never out of the power loop. Adjust the linkage to correct the problem. Hope this helps. |
