Bobby,

Just a couple of straws to grasp here and I am not sure if they have already been addressed but.........

You are aware that to get a true compression ratio you need to have the throttle wide open so the engine can suck up the maximum amount of air to compress.

To determine if the cylinder / rings are working it is usual to squirt some oil into the bore through the spark plug hole. This will seal the rings so if the compression goes up you know it is the cylinder and if it doesn't you know it is the head / gasket. Now this works well when the cylinder is vertical but probably will not work so well in our cases with a horizontal cylinder. Still it might be worth getting the piston to its lowest point and using a squeezy bottle with a nozzle pointing upward squirting some two stroke oil into the cylinder. It might run around and give a good coating.

Do not be concerned about the crankshaft seals or the reed valve they only provide crankcase pressure below the piston. Your concern is what is happening above the piston.
