Default 1987 Gas - New Backfire Problem

I had a backfire problem with my cart - would backfire when I let off the gas pedal. I replaced the carb on the unit and it cured that backfire - now I get the odd backfire when I push the gas pedal to get the cart going. What should I be looking for to cure this backfire?

when you replaced the carb, etc did you remember to install the spring that goes over the throttle cable between the carb arm and the cable stop? Without this spring to shut the butterfly all the way, when you let off the gas and the engine winds down (or if you're coasting, etc) the engine will continue to suck fuel without the ignition being "hot" - it loads up and as soon as you hit the pedal and initiate spark, POP there goes all that fuel in one big bang ....

Yes I am sure that I put the spring back on. Should the stop be against the spring and the arm with no slack at all except for room for the spring to compress?

you want the spring to be compressed to the point that when you press the gas pedal, the carb arm starts to move *just* after you depress the pedal enough to hear the pedal microswitch click ... Once you hear the click, the ignition is on, so you want to be sure the carb doesn't open at all until just AFTER the ignition kicks on. It can be a finicky one to get set exactly right, but once it is I'm pretty sure that should stop the backfire issue
