Default 2005 DS Basket case where to start too many options

I am very new to the whole cart thing, But we have 10 acres and im tired of walking from one end to the other. So I bought a used Cart that needs lots of work. I see it as a challenge and a lot of fun to get it running and dressed like I want it not the way some one else wanted. Bonus I might save a few dollars along the way.
I have a ways to go and have not figured out the best way to start so any suggestions would be great.
No Battires
No charger
Main cables cut and need replaced.
Thats where I’m starting, but I have not figured out if I should go back stock and use the OBC, or bypass it and get a different charger.

Thanks John

3 things a cart has to have to operate 1) batteries, 2) cables, 3) charger. Removing a failure point and getting the same outcome to me is a good thing. If I were you, I would bypass the OBC and get a smart charger, go ahead and make or buy 2 gage cables and a good quality set of batteries.

My $0.02.....Good Luck!

Hi John and welcome to the forum. You didn't mention the motor or controller, but if it was me I would test both of those before I could lay out a full plan of just how much and what I had to do. The reason I say this it may well become cheaper to buy a kit instead of piecing it together. Just a little advice as I already made these costly mistakes

I agree with the others so far. Really, it all depends on what you are wanting the cart to be capable of. If you want it for just putting around, your needs are much different than if you want it to be off-road capable or able to do some light hauling(since your on 10 acres, I'm assuming you will some chores that you could utilize the cart for). You are in the right place to get advice!

Whart all are you wanting to use the cart for?

Some light hauling, Amazon only deliveries to the gate. This place is full of trees and no roads so it might get a little mud from time to time. I wil search how to test the motor and controller. I’m guessing it is fairly easy but it will require some juice.
My first thought was to bypass the OBC, it seems the smart chargers are a little pricey
