Default Burned solenoid resistor

Hello, during my annual terminal cleaning, I kinda sorta shorted the two terminals on my 2008 club car precedent motor. Didnt notice any obvious issue until I tried to move and couldnt. Popped open the wiring board and noticed the resistor across the solenoid terminals was smoking. Obviously, I need to replace it but does this mean there may be other damage? There is no diode that I can see.

Pretty much any time you bridge across terminals of the motor it fries the controller.
The resistor smoking is because the controller is shorted internally.
Unfortunately, you need a new controller. And a new resistor.

As FT4M stated, and there is no diode because your solenoid is polarized.

Bad news possibly OP. Controller could be smoked. Sorry man. Little mistake with a big consequence. We’ve all done it I’m sure. Except for Nole, FairTax, ScottyB, Dave, and the rest of the Oracle Trust who I know are too good to make mistakes like us common folk....hahahahaha.....I kid but most of those dudes disconnect the pack before turning wrenches I would guess. Tough break man.

In '95 we had a '95 DS quit working at the plant. Instead of sending it back to the dealer for warranty, I went to working on it. Appeared the new silver box it had (Controller) was the culprit so in an attempt to test it I hooked jumper cables to the various connections.... Pow-Pop-Phsew!

Oh well, lesson learned..... :o)

Thanks on the bass!
Look on the bright side, new Alltrax, some bigger battery cables, and a solenoid upgrade, you can run 20mph and have better torque too!

Htown, I haven’t mistakenly burned up a golf cart controller yet, but there will be a day when I have a lapse in judgment or get too cocky and drop a wrench on one. Shift happens ya know?
I have toasted plenty of other electronics though. Some part of the learning curve of what NOT to do comes from finding out the hard way... or by “let’s just see what happens when I...” POW!!

Do I really need to upgrade cables and solonoid? On a budget here.

Not necessarily. Usually a good idea, but it will still run just fine with the stock stuff.
Which controller do you have? Can you get a look at the model number on it? Or tell us what color the case is?
There are several options you can go with.
A used stock replacement would probably be the least expensive if you can find one.
New stock replacements are certainly available, but often cost more than an Alltrax.
An Alltrax would give you the ability to change a lot of features. It may be a bit more work to set up than a stock controller but would give you better possibilities for future upgrades.
