Default I think I have a charging problem?

New to forum. I've done some research and I have a 1995 Club Car 48-volt system. My father-in-law gave it to us about 20 years ago. The only thing I have done to Club Car was to change out the batteries a few years back. Great car!

A few weeks back the charger (original) fell off the table it was on. Didn't think much about it, as it was only a couple of inches. I plugged in the charger the other day and it pegged above 15 amps and popped the circuit breaker. I tried to plug and unplug the charger several times with the same results.

I checked all the batteries and all had adequate water. All voltages were at least 8 volts, with 48.8 volts across all six.

I tried another Club Car charger from my father-in-law and it also pegged to 15 amps, then went to 0 but the circuit breaker did not trip. I have never gad the breaker trio in the 20 years we have had the cart.

It appears that I have a full charge, but what would cause the circuit breaker to trip? Am I over charged?

I am going to take the cart out and run it down tomorrow to discharge the batteries a little, when see what the charger does.

Would this cart have an OBC and if it might, what would it look like?

Thanks!

48.8v is just above 50% charged, you need to charge your batteries not run them down any more!

That is a PD1 or original Powerdrive (179390. It has a replaceable relay, circuit brkr, and heatsink/diode assembly. You more than likely damaged the diode and on the outside chance, damaged the brkr. Hopefully not the transformer...

Here is the kit for it https://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/p...werdrive-17930 but I would also call David Hicks at Revolution Golf Cars 706-431-3917 and seek his advice.

What Nole said. Also, did you let the charger run until it shut off?

And as HT pointed out, they are not fully charged.
