Mine seems fine but Scotty will have to chime in and let me know what he thinks.

So far so good. Throttle is a little rough but my expectations may have been too high. What damage would you foresee taking place if the controller was hooked up incorrectly?

This is my throttle curve on a Precedent with an XCT-500, if You make the first half of the curve very gradual the cart will have a very smooth throttle at crawl-to-low speed:

Did You ever install the flyback diode on the solenoid coil?

That picture You posted for the Solenoid does not clearly show the Solenoid coil connections (or it was an old picture) and it it is hard to verify it is wired properly.

That may be caused by the dielectric grease that you were worried about earlier. Get a can of CRC Electric Contact Cleaner and cleanup some of the grease. You can get it at automotive stores. Also if you had your controller hooked up wrong it wouldn't run right.

Just noticed tonight that I haven't heard my reverse buzzer since I installed the new controller. Is this common? Other than that, no other issues.

The reverse buzzer should work as before, if you wired anything behind the dash make sure the buzzer did not unplugged (put the cart on Tow before removing the dash).

How did you fix the rough throttle?
