Default 36v to 48v ?

I currently have a TXT 36v I want to convert to 48v was wondering if anyone has tried or thoughts on just adding 1 12v battery with 6 6v batteries to get
48v verses adding 2 6v in bag well. not sure I want to add 2 6v in bag well due to looks really do not want to purchase 6 8v due to batteries are only 2 years old in good condition I want good runtime, any ideas or thoughts

The amperage capacity and charging needs differ greatly between 6 and 12v batteries. There are significant problems in both discharge and recharge cycles when mixing voltages within a pack. It's a definite no no

It is very important that all of your batteries are matched when running them in series. That means Amp Hour Capacity and Age!

As mentioned, adding a 12V battery to a 36V (6x6V) pack is a no-no, but you can add a seventh 6V battery for a 42V (7x6V) system now and go to a 48V (6x8V) system when the batteries have to be replaced.

Aftermarket controllers tend to operate at 36V, 42V and 48V, but not all solenoid do and battery chargers are voltage specific.

The Super-Duty 48V solenoid I use works at 36V and 42V as well as 48V, and the 42V DPI Accusense charger I use can be converted to a 48V charge by replacing the output board, which is far cheaper than replacing the entire charger.

It would be best to add a 6V battery about the same age and AH as the existing ones, but if you cannot find one, the new battery will soon have the same aging characteristics as the existing ones.

Agreed. The age thing takes care of itself so long as the new or added battery is of better condition or has less age than the pack. Size matters.

If you're in a popular area for carting as I am just sell your 6 volt batteries and buy 6x 8 volt batteries. I was able to sell my used batteries for a good amount and bought the Trojan Rangers which give great run time. ScottyB supplied all other components that completed my swap and 48volts is much better IMO.

I don't know anybody who went from 36 to 48v and wished they had not but, I only upgrade about 3000 carts a year here and at Carts Unlimited.

In the first post in this thread leevubehind stated: I want good runtime, any ideas or thoughts

The run-time of a standard grade 48Vpack (6 x 8V-170AH) is roughly the same as a standard grade 36V pack (6 x 6V-225AH), however adding a seventh standard grade 6V battery to the existing six standard grade 6V batteries will produce about 17% more run-time, or about the same run-time as a super-premium 48V pack (6 x 8V-204AH).

Attached is a list of 48V packs made up from various 6V and 8V batteries. The configurations closer to the top of the list have more run-time.

Throw 6 crown CR 190's in there and be done with it. I priced the Rangers and couldn't justify the price diff.

My Trojan Rangers were $140 each and I love the range. Can't put a price on the range IMO. What's an extra couple hundred dollars when I rebuilt the whole cart and it gives me the extra distance.....priceless. I drive all over the place on hilly terrain and still haven't got them lower than 80% SOC.
