Default 2002 transmission problem?

Ok, so my cart wont go
Engine rev's up, clutches appear to be engaging when I took the seat off and hit the gas, but it wont go

Problem is, SIL was out on the cart when it started, and he is a perpetual lair so I have no idea what really happened. He said it just started acting like it wouldnt go very good, yet he somehow kept driving it till it got to my yard, where it wouldnt move at all.
I had been on it all day before that and things were just fine

anyway, I dont know why, but I kind of suspect it may have gotten thrown from reverse into forward while the cart was still moving (thoughts?)

with the cart off, I can put it in gear (fwd or rev) and still push the cart with little resistance compared to neutral, and before I know you couldnt push the cart at all if it was in gear

anyways, how do I figure out what is wrong?
or do the wise minds on here know where to start?
I'm pretty handy mechanically, I just hate tearing into stuff without already having parts on hand to fix, and where I live I cant just run down to the parts store and grab what I need when I figure it out

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

BTW, 2002 Gas Ez-go TXT

Check to see if the splines on one of the rear hubs are shot. Very common.

Yeah, cart in forward and put in to reverse before the cart comes to a stop, and it will strip the hub. Check both hubs, they took the same hit

ok, so I see a video on the tube of you that says if you remove the wheel cap and hit the gas you should be able to see the crown nut (axle) spin, indicating it is for sure the hub(s). Will this method work on my cart?

likely to be both?
or is it best to go ahead and replace both?

and are these something that just wear out time to time or only really go out if they take the hit?

Remove the center cap on both rear wheels, with the wheels on the ground. Spin the secondary clutch by hand. If the center axle nut turns, and the hub does not, the splines are shot. Usually only one goes at a time, but if one goes, the cart won't move because of the open differential.

Took both all the way off this evening before i saw your post.
Right one looks smooth as silk, left looks 'ok'
I think i am gunna replace both and keep the left one for a spare, got plenty of storage space in the garage. :)

I have had it happen on a club car where the rear clutch bolt and key way somehow worked itself off and the clutch just free spun and was held on with the belt. The cart wouldnt move at all but would rev up. On ezgos it is usually the rear drum splines.
