Default Popping & scraping

Just got a new to me ‘99 DS (A9922) in nice shape. Runs and rides nice. It appears that the very end of the front leaf spring is rubbing on the inside of the front rims, especially in reverse. When I back up, it has a popping and a scraping sound and it appears to have some drag. When I run forward, it does not scrape and has no drag. Is this a sign that it needs new bushings? The service manual seems to call for a brass(?) bushing... My neighbor changed his and he used a rubber bushing with a sleeve. Which is correct? I am confused...
Thanks
Bob

Also, the brake lights seem to stay on. Is the switch a timer or a straight switch?

You need me rubber bushings. You probably need them in the front and the back.

Yes, replace the bushings.

For the brake light, check both the switch and the adjustment that is underneath it. It is one of the two.

Had this issue. Be sure you check tightness of all nuts on suspension. Can't remember which one it was, but found it with when off and when I tightened one nut, ended problem. Sorry I can't be more exact, but it's obvious with wheel off.

Think it was #17 in this schematic.

101558302 rubber bushings and 1012303 sleeves. Replace them. That's your issue.
