Default 2006 ds iq - need more speed

I have a 2006 DS IQ with a 500 amp Alltrax, 2/0 cable set, HD Solenoid, 6" lift, and have a GE D388 high torque motor that says RPMs - 2750. I get about 12-14 mph and want to get at least 20 with still some torque........suggestions??

The experts will be along soon, and i'm certainly not one, but is your alltrax programmable? That RPM is pretty low. I have a high speed motor and set the max rpm to 6500. Obviously w/the high torque motor you will be losing speed..

Yes, its programmable but not sure I can get more with the motor itself being a slow torque motor. I want more speed but still have the capability going up hills. Anyone recommend a new motor?

Which Alltrax the older DCX? Or is it a XCT

You are limited right now by the motor only running for torque and not speed. The XCT's have field maps for most all motors and the ability to adjust for speed or torque.

It is more labor intensive but less expensive to do a gear reduction. You can go from your 12:1 rear end to an 8:1 and get the speeds you are looking for. With the high torque motor it should be able to handle it just fine.

What size tires are you running? It may be worth looking into whether the Alltrax is set to 100%. 12-14 sounds slow even with a high torque motor, especially if you are running taller tires and an Alltrax.

Yep, DCX. It is at 100% last I remember. Any idea how much to switch out rear end? Any motor suggestions?

The Admiral A-2 will give you more speed and your controller should keep the torque up for what you are doing. The Admiral A-4 is a complete beast if you want that much.... Plum Quick also makes some too.
