Cut off voltage was at 46 volts. Took a while to get there, so I'm suspecting the battery pack is aging and not as good as it once was. Wall outlet voltage is 119VAC, measured.

I have actually heard this charger kick itself off in the past on occasion, but usually after about an hour of charrge when the batteries are nowhere near fully charged. I usually turn it back on and then it runs until it times out or until I turn it off manually. Don't know if the capacitor getting old could have something to do with that or not.

What it boils down to is that both the charger and the batteries are sorta iffy and I cannot prove whether one or the other is good or bad.

If it were mine, I'd look around for a motor-run capacitor and give that a try. They are only about $5.

Note: Motor-run caps are continuous duty rated while motor-start caps are for intermittent use.

What is the pack voltage after they have rested about 12 hours? Ought to be about 38.2V for Trojan and Trojan clones.

They only got about 9 hours rest last night and were just over 39 volts this morning. I'll know a better number tomorrow after the pack has rested fully.

I guess we'll just have to "come and take them" as they are.

At-rest voltage is a little high, but what you get is what you've got.

Looks like your batteries are being charged.
If the old charger doesn't shut off automatically, the timer shuts it off at 12 hours, and even if it didn't it won't overcharge the batteries if left on for days.

It wouldn't hurt to try a different cap in the charger, but it won't hurt to run as is either.

I fixed it!

DC cord from the Total Charge on an Accupower automatic charger I got working from my parts pile. No more timer turning for me!
