3 12v in a series to us for tests?
Hello all,
was recently given 2 ezgo txt a 2003 and a 2004. both are in rough condition but i figure i can proaply get 1 good cart out of the 2. my question is this, can i run 3 - 12 volt batteries in a series to get my 36volts to use to test the rest of the electronics on the cart? My reason for this is i have 3 - 12 volt batteries laying around and dont want to send the money on new 6volts if all the other electronics are shot. thanks for the help. Wiltz |

Re: 3 12v in a series to us for tests?
Hi Wiltz to BGW
36 volts is 36 volts. It doesn't matter how you get them. Your run time would be roughly half of what a 6 volt bank would be but fine for troubleshooting. Just make sure your batteries are fully charged. If one of those 12v is weak and doesn't test under load you could be troubleshooting ghost problems solely due to a weak battery. Best bet is to fully charge them and do some tests. Then if you have to do more test the next day make sure you have charged all 3 during the previous night. Good Luck and welcome again. |

So in theory..on a 48v cart 8 -6volts will last 1/3 longer than 6-8volt batteries?

Re: 3 12v in a series to us for tests?
I should have kept my trap shut with that guestimate . It's the lead in the battery which gives you your run time. Heavier battery = more reserve = longer run times. I don't think anyone would talk specific numbers without knowing battery details. But in theory you would get longer run times from 8 6v batteries. 1/3 longer is questionable.

Re: 3 12v in a series to us for tests?
Thanks for the help. I will try this tomorrow. I have been browsing this forum for the past 3night trying to learn all I can about these carts. The information here is astounding. Who knew that golf carts had such a hobby culture. Great site I'm know I will be asking more questions as I work on the carts. Thanks for a great forum!
