High Speed Gear Kit Help
?I'm getting ready to purchase an '09 Yamaha gas two-seater that will be used primarily on the streets in The Villages in FL. Want to increase the speed. Can you tell me the best way to do this? Thanks.

Re: High Speed Gear Kit Help
The simplest way is taller tires. There are a few things to consider.....
1. taller tires or gears or however you try to reach higher speeds will require more power to operate. If you do not have enough excess umph to push it you are not going to be happy. 2. high speed carts need matching braking power. There are simple Govenor adjustments to major mods for more speed available. |

Re: High Speed Gear Kit Help
OK, what would you suggest...I've read that most stock carts run around 16 mph. In the Villages most carts run from 20 to 30 mph, although the speed limit is 20 mph. I'd be happy with the 25 to 30 range just to be able to get out of the way when needed. Can this be attained by tire height and a small governor tweak? I'm really not fired up by achieving these speeds by higher rpm.
Thanks for the input! Mouth harmony@cableone.net |

Re: High Speed Gear Kit Help
20-25 mph is very do-able. 30 mph is a whole other level of investment.
You can do 20-25 with gov. adjustment (a speed spring) and some bigger tires. Some bigger tires will require a lift kit and some taller lift kits can cause tip-over hazzard at high speeds. |

Re: High Speed Gear Kit Help
Man, I really appreciate the info. I've worked on just about everything there is....except carts. This will help get me going in the right direction. Sounds like you know what you're doing. Thanks again.
