Default The belts are turning but engine wont catch

I just got a 98 EZ-GO Workhorse. I had to replace one of the piston heads and connecting arm. I got the engine put back together and in the cart. The belts turn but the engine just wont engage. I've checked the plugs and they're fine. Don't know what else to do. Someone suggested I need to set the timing and I might have the starter belt too tight. Any ideas?

When I was taking the engine apart I removed the timing belt and the the crank shaft was turned a few times. I'm almost convinced that's what it is. I'm gonna attack that tonight and reply tomorrow. Thanks for your help PM!

Do the two marks at the top and the two marks at the bottom need to be aligned or will having just one set aligned through off the timing?

Okay I'll give that a shot. I was hoping I could get away with it without having to take the clutch off.
