Default 2003 DS IQ - Can I run it with no charge port hooked up?

Hello! I picked a new to me 2002 DSIQ. It needs batteries, but apart from that, it's in good shape. I notice the cart has 6-8v batteries. I happen to have 4-12v Trojans for another cart handy. I'd like to put these in this DS and confirm everything works before I dive too deeply into fixing it up. The cables have some corrosion on them, but I was going to fix the main 'red' cable shortly - and was curious if I can just hook up the main red, the main black - and if everything (minus the charge port) should work after that?

You will be fine for a test drive but you really need to be able to recharge those 4-12's when you are done.

Awesome! Thank you! The 12's will go back into my dad's Precedent when I'm done. He's experimenting with some Lithium's.
