Negative Battery Cable Connector Broke
looks like kids got a little crazy with the cart and knocked the battery loose. The negative battery cable connector is broken where it crimps to wire. Since the wire doesn't look like it is copper where can I get a new connector? Can I use a copper connector or will there be a problem with dissimilar metals? or should I replace the whole wire.
thanks |

Re: Negative Battery Cable Connector Broke
The wire is probably copper just discolored from age and use ...... anyway a copper end is what you need
.... and some battery hold downs, and a little talk with the KIDS |

Re: Negative Battery Cable Connector Broke
wasn't sure. Its a bare wire that runs from the negative termanil to the box below the battery on the drivers side.

Re: Negative Battery Cable Connector Broke
The cable did look like it was copper with dirt and/or corrosion on it. It was a bare wire that went into the elctrical components cover and then over to the starter.
Anyway, I cut the broken terminal end off and rounded the wire end to make sure it would fit into a new lug. I then took a 3/8" copper lug and filled the end with solder by heating with a gas torch. When completly melted I inserted the wire into the lug and then allowed it to cool. Looks like it did the job. The connection seems firm and tight. thanks for your help. |
