Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
You say a couple of hours at 3-4amps. how long has the charger run before getting to that level ? A normal charge will start at 15-17amps and in 4-6 hrs reach 3-4amps.If the charger is doing an equalization then it will run for longer at low amps. and the batteries will bubble vigorously. Check that the batteries are good by measuring the voltage across the pack with the charger running at the 3-4 amps. a full charge on good batteries should be 62-64v and 59v if not so good at which stage the charger should shut off. If you have access to another Clubcar 48v cart, plug in your charger and see if it turns off. If it does then the problem is with the OBC on the car. If it does not switch off then its likely to be the relay in the charger.

Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
Are you new to carts? Is the cart new to you? Know any history on the batteries such as age, cell water level etc?
It may take as long as 16 hours to fully charge the batteries.... |

Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
Mine is doing the same thing, i dont know why. I put new trojan batteries in about a month ago. My charger was a DPI, and it fried. I borrowed my brothers and its a club car charger. It will get down to 3 or 4 amps and wont shut off either. I checkmthe volts on each battery and 3 of them are 12.8v and 1 is 12.6. Could that be the problem? Im getting a new charger tomorrow , its a lester. I hope it works.

Golf Dog
During charge with amps 3-4, the voltage across the pack was 59.6. Off charge, each individual battery was 9.6-7. After 6 hours, and using for the equivalent of 6 holes, each battery was 8.3-4. I have not checked with a hydrometer as yet - but It would appear to me that the batteries are ok and either the OBC is causing the charger to shut-off - or Their is something with the charger. What are your thoughts? thank you for your help. |

Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
Your voltage numbers sound good. I would guess there's a problem with the OBC or the charger relay. Does the charger turn on immediately when you plug it in or is there a delayed turn on?

Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
The Power Drive charger, when plugged in, there is a slight lag of maybe 3-4 seconds.
It begins charging for 30 seconds or so, then shuts off and immediately back on. How do I go about resetting the OBC to see if that will solve the issue? thank you for your help |

Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
The turning off and right back on at the beginning is completely normal. That is the 'check' that the OBC does at the beginning of the charge cycle.

Re: Club Car Power Drive Charger Not Shutting Off
Thank you for the link to resetting the OBC.
question tho: when it says to lock the throttle down, do you keep it locked down for the entire 5 minutes or just until the reverse buzzer stops buzzing? Thanks for your help |
