Brake Light Switch Mounting location
Hey guys,
Installing a Deluxe light kit on an EZGO TXT. A picture is attached of the type of switch the kit came with. I am under the impression that when the push button is pushed in the brake lights are off. When the push button is free then the brake lights are on. Is that correct? It also doesnt seem like a very good waterproof connection down there either. Is there something I can do to fix that? I see that the Madjax kit comes with a different type of switch that connects to the brake pedal. Can I use that on my kit? Thanks Ty |

Re: Brake Light Switch Mounting location
My old western cart used a push type horn button, drilled a hole through the brake pedal and mounted it that way

Re: Brake Light Switch Mounting location
Yep, i agree with the "drill a hole" idea. I dont know who's "deluxe light kit" that is, but it sure aint Ezgos version of a brake pedal switch. They must be assuming you already have the "hinge pedal" system like ezgo uses on "deluxe light kit" equipped carts with brake lights. If you had that type brake pedal, you wouldnt need a light kit (it would already be there). Maybe its a "normally closed" switch, designed to be normally pressed by the brake pedal bar when you are not pressing the pedal (allowing it to make contact when the pedal bar is not touching it). Nice job with the directions, aftermarket guys.... Do they give any ideas how its supposed to go?

Re: Brake Light Switch Mounting location
Directions are not very good. There is a picture that is pretty poor. I believe it is to be mounted above the brake pedal arm and when the brake pedal is not pressed it makes contact with the switch. As soon as you hit the pedal it lets the button out and in theory the lights will come on.
The wiring harness just has two wires for it. i wonder if I can buy the other button that goes into the brake pedal and use it? |

Re: Brake Light Switch Mounting location
Yes, sounds right. But the problem with putting the switch under the floor is that it could result in the brake lights staying on whenever the park brake is locked (not a problem for switches activated directly by foot pressure on the pedal).

I didnt even think about that. It also has all the open connections underneath the cart for that switch. I am going to change it the foot pedal one. Now figure out a part number and make sure it will work. Hopefully the lights will work without it for a little while anyway..

Re: Brake Light Switch Mounting location
The deluxe kit's come with a timer relay for this circuit. When the brake pedal is depressed and "locked", the brake lights will automatically time out and turn off after 10 seconds

Re: Brake Light Switch Mounting location
I wired mine so that it is normally open - I mounted it under the cart so that the brake lever touches it when you let off the brakes - Works fine.
