Wiring One Indicator light for both left & right blinker?
I would like to wire my newly installed blinkers to one LED indicator on the dash. I'm not concerned with which side is on, just want an indication that they are on. I bought the led, and resistors (to bring the voltage down for the LED), but realized wiring the left and right turn signal to one (+) side of the LED will end up triggering both sides. Duh! How could I make this work? Would a relay on each (+) of the blinker circuit before the LED work?

You could do relays but would be a lot of extra wiring. Install diodes inline with the wire from the turn signal to the indicator on the dash. They are basically check valves for electricity. They will keep the power from back feeding through the light and powering the other turn signal.

Diodes used in line from the left and right positive power from blinker switch to the resistor / led indicator light will do the trick.

Thanks! I am mechanical, not electrical in nature. Appreciate it!

Just a note but when wired the way you indicated the LED will be ON and not blink when the brake pedal is pressed or locked in the parking mode.
If You have a 3-pin or 4-pin flasher with a P terminal, You can wire your LED/Resistor from that terminal to negative and the LED will always flash when the turn signal is ON regardless of the brake pedal. |
