2000 G16, Shock replacment
I have just purchased a 2000 G16. It totally stock and Im currently ordering a Jakes 6" lift, NOT long travel. I noticed that the current shocks seem weak. There is quiet a bit of movement, side to side, when cornering. Im thinking its the factory shocks...?
Input please.. Where and how much should I expect to pay for shocks? Or is there a way to test my suspension/shocks to make sure that is the issue? Thanks, PS, build will start in the coming months and I plan to update with daily pics of the dis-assembly and rebuild/paint/etc. |

Is there any oil leaking from the shocks? |

Re: 2000 G16, Shock replacment
Not that I see. To be honest, I test drove it and this was the only possible issue I could find. I have only ridden/drove golf carts while playing golf so my "butt feel" may have been a little over sensitive.
BUT, it just seemed it was a bit loosey goosey. Even when I was standing beside it and pushed and pulled on the top it seemed it would sway quiet a bit from side to side. What is the normal life of the shocks? |

Check your toe in , lift normally will throw it out of alignment
Shocks are quite expensive on Yamaha’s try to keep them unless they are leaking there is also adjustment on the steering box a small 10mm nut loosen it & turn screw in to tighten a bit Welcome to the forum |

Re: 2000 G16, Shock replacment
I want to say shocks work at high rates of speed to slow that speed. rocking a lifted cart is not a test of shocks. When lift kits are installed the leverage on the suspension is increased so you are able to rock the cart easier. Shocks don't go bad as often as people think.

Re: 2000 G16, Shock replacment
This is good info.. I must mislead because the cart is not lifted yet. I just bought the cart and Im now ordering the lift from Jakes. I will check for leaking and go from there.
THANKS GUYS!! |

Re: 2000 G16, Shock replacment
The front shocks on G16 are prone to being weak. My camber is way off right now because of weak shocks. On my home course about 1/2 of their G16's are cambered out due to weak shocks. There is someone who rebuilds them ( I think Plowman), buy new ones (found some for around 100/pair), or do something different. I was looking at air shocks to replace the oem's.
