Battery Case Repair
I recently installed a set of T 105's in one of the carts. One of the terminal connections came loose and the typical arc/melting of the terminal resulted. I was able to repair the terminal by drilling and installing a new stud and that part worked well; However, there was a melted part of the battery case itself that was about 1/4" X 1/2". I filled that with silicone sealant, but that has not worked well and there is alway excess corrosion/acid in this area. Is there some better method of repairing a hole in the case? I was thinking maybe using a hot glue gun. All advice appreciated.

read this thread:

Re: Battery Case Repair
I can now report that the repairs to the melted battery case seemed to work great with JB Waterweld. I cleaned the area as completely as possible and made a final wipe with acetone. I applied the JB Waterweld and pushed it down into the opening and then made a smooth surface. The repair has been on for two weeks now and there is no sign of leakage or deterioration of the waterweld as there was with the silicone sealant.

Re: Battery Case Repair
Thanks for the success story with JB Weld.
Our cart came with two missing posts with the tap fix but the positive 36v take off post melted the steel bolt upside down into the battery case. I started to try and remove it but since it does not leak/seep I decided to let that sleeping dog lie. I did get some lead washers and rebuilt short lead posts by placing them UNDER the cable end so the cable end made a better contact with the tapped flat lead connection. The temp gun was showing a few degrees of heat build up at one due to a less than idea fit on the bottom side. |

Re: Battery Case Repair
Did my normal monthly maintenance/water level check/bolt tightening today and the JB weld repair looks great and there is no sign of leakage. I conclude that this is an excellent procedure and product for this kind of repair.
