Re: Winter fun.... and freezing batteries
Wanted to clear something up in my head....... voltage = speed, amps = torque... and back to 36 vs.48, and 6-8's vs. 8-6's, 48v will go faster than 36v, and 8-6's will have a longer 'run time' than 6-8's, but have roughly the same torque and speed??
Has it been tried, and probably has, running 6-8's in series, but having 2-8's run in parallel to 2 of the 8's in the series??? to maybe add some runtime to the pack, I've worked with speakers and resistances and ohm loads and just curious.... I guess it all stems from a cart at golf courses running roughly 4 or 5 miles for 1 round of golf, still having the charge for the second round, and it seems that my cart wouldn't make but maybe 36 holes til it dies... does the stopping and going help reduce the depletion of charge?? do I need to look into maybe a gasser with alot of mufflers to quiet the gasser down? |

You don't have to worry about the charge receptacle. Yes, the cart is a lot of fun in snow!

Re: Winter fun.... and freezing batteries
A cart's battery pack several batteries connected in series, so you want all links in the series chain to be equal and what you are suggesting by add some in parallel to the series chain will upset that balance.
Run-time in electric carts is akin to gas mileage in cars, a lot of starts and stops lowers it considerably and jackrabbit starts kills it quickly. IIRC, you've got a PDS cart, so you ought to be getting 10 miles of stop and go driving without too much decrease in performance heading back to the barn, unless you got tall tires and a heavy foot and/or bad batteries and/or bad cables. Let me see if I got this straight, you don't smoke, but you're considering getting a cart that does. |

Re: Winter fun.... and freezing batteries
So, I have somewhat tall tires, 22's, and the load, me, let's just say 290, but coming down, 10 hours, I take it, that's well below the 75% drain and closer to just below 50% drain. or lower. And hearing the talk of 72v's, 6-12's, 9-8's, haven't seen controllers for those numbers... or motors... special order?
I'll be sticking with 48v, but curiocity gets the better of me, and when it comes to battery purchasing, then I'll decide on 6 or 8.. I thank you guys for the input but time for me to make the wife happy..... like you can do that |
