Default Should I go to 4 gage cable?

I'm doing a friends G19 and it has 8 gage cable on it now. Would he get better performance with 4 gage wire? and should it have 4 gage from the controler to the motor?

You will see an improvement over 8 gauge for sure. Not speed but torque. You need to do all of em, especially the controller/motor cables.

I have converted five carts to 2 gauge copper welding wire. My local welding supply sells the wire and connectors at a reasonable price. The welding wire is top quality, very flexible, and easy to work with. The connectors fit the 2 gauge wire perfectly and have 5/16" hole for the battery connection. They are thick solid copper. First I triple crimp the connector to the wire then solder it on. I then wrap the connection with a layer of electrical tape for a good seal from corrosion. Lastly I put heat shrink tubing over the connection to protect the tape and give it a neat appearance. Performance improvements are subjective of course but I believe I see a significant increase in torque on all the units I have converted. The 2 gauge cables don't even get warm.
