Radio in a Tomberlin
Has anyone put a radio console in their Tomberlin golf cart and if so how do you like it?

Re: Radio in a Tomberlin
I had my dealer throw in a radio - they installed it in the headliner above the passenger and put speakers in the headliner behind. At night there is a bit of glare for the passenger and the viewing angle for LCD displays isn't optimal, but otherwise I love it. The $100 stereo they put in was crap though - I tested and returned several combinations of components; ended up with a Sony (DSXMS60)receiver with iPod tray, Polk (MM651) 6.5" speakers that JUST fit into the headliner, then added a low-cost Pyle (PLMRBS marine subwoofer for a bit of exta bass between my front and back seats along with a sub capacitor. It sounds pretty decent for the cost. Hope that helps...

Re: Radio in a Tomberlin
Is that a stock headliner from Tomberlin? If so how much does it run?

How are you powering your stereo? Did they have to add any additional power supplies?
Thx |

Re: Radio in a Tomberlin
Sorry - don't check this site much. The headliner is stock if you order the Cobra version. Its like a suede that includes a 1/8" foam backing glued to ~3/8" plywood. Pretty nice. For the power, I added a second battery/charger system - 12V - so I could leave all the stock 12V wiring as-is. I had Ala Cart do the install - they added a bracket off the frame and dropped in the battery/charger, added a fuse holder, etc. I chose from batterymart.com an SLA-12V35 35Ah SLA battery (same kind used in electric chairs), stuffed it in a BOX-U1 battery box, and added a 022-0157-1 water-proof Power Tender charger. I was worried how long I could run the stereo expecially with the sub, but I use it on and off all weekend inc a couple rounds of 9 holes without charging it.
BTW - I updated to a pyle PLBASS10 10" sub this weekend. Though it isn't all weather, I don't golf much in the rain and the black color made it more stealthy. Didn't improve the sound much if any - both only go down to 50Hz. But these fit nice in the 3-4" between the front and rear seats. Its mounted to a piece of diamond plate that bolts to the license plate rack. |
