Question How do you check to see if it is worth buying batteries

I am new to carting, and I have a 1977 H-D DE40 that does not have batteries, Is there any way to see if this cart will be worth the money for batteries without buying them?

Thank You, sorry about the loud, Will the cart go normally in forward and reverse, with three 12 volt batteries, somewhere I heard reverse uses 1/2 voltage.

I just bought a simular 4 wheel HD, but mine is gas, not electric. I am in Indiana, and would be interested to keep tabs on this restoration, as I expect to be right behind you. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
