Question on starting 1969 HD golf cart.
Hello, I have been working on my new (to me) Harley Davidson gas golf cart.
I have change starter, all wiring, micro switch and finally the forward/reverse switch. But I am starting to think that either I am doing something wrong when starting. If I turn the ignition key to on and put forward/reverse in the center position all I get is a click. If I move the lever to forward or reverse then the starter turns over. Is that correct or is something wrong. The reason I questions is because while the starter is turning the wheels are turning as well which if the tires were actually touching the ground I am thinking that the cart would move. Could someone please guide me. Thank you |

Re: Question on starting 1969 HD golf cart.
What you are doing sounds completely normal. When the F/R is in the center you are activating the solenoid but not the F or R circuits given that your F/R level is essentially in neutral.
Your starter moving in F/R means that things are perfect with that part of it. The turning starter absolutely will move a cart forward or reverse, albeit very slowly and not for very long as the battery will peter out. It sounds like you are in good shape. |

Re: Question on starting 1969 HD golf cart.
The cart's belt will slip rather than the cart move unless the there are enough rpms to engage the primary clutch. I will admit we used to deliberately hit the key with the throttle down to briefly spin the tires even on pavement.
