1983 marathon fires but wont move
I have a 1983 marathon. Not sure if its a 2pg or 3pg ( the muffler stands straight up). I just put a new clutch in it rode it on the course about 3 days and it was back firing really loud. I put it in the shop to check carb, and adjusted the fuel flap to make sure the flap was closing all the way. Now for the real question... Now the motor will turn over but will not pull out, the generator is turning great, but have the time the clutch will pull and half the time the shaft behind the clutch spins and not the clutch. Could it be the cam seals, or is the secondary clutch out of line or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cant find a manual for that motor and clutch.

It sounds like two problems. The crankshaft seals were blown out by the backfiring, and the primary clutch is loose on the crankshaft.
A vertical muffler is not an 83 unless it has been modified. |
