Rear passenger barely spins; rear driver spins fine
Our EZGO TXT has been running slightly slower than normal for about a year. Last week the wheels stopped turning when pressing the accelerator. I took the wheels off and the splines in the hubs are fine. When I press the accelerator with the wheels off, the driver side rear axle spins fine but the passenger side rear axle spins slowly and takes a lot of momentum to get going.
What should I troubleshoot next? Apologies if there is a thread on this already. I’ve read plenty of threads but haven’t come across this particular symptom. |

Rear passenger barely spins; rear driver spins fine
Brakes adjusting themselves out too much causing brake drag on that side. Pull the drum off on that side and manually adjust the star wheel back in. It’s probably going to be a pain to get the drum off. I use a piece of chain connected to two lug studs and pull on the chain while tapping around the drum with a rubber mallet.
I had one doing that and had to change the star wheel adjuster to make it stop. |

Re: Rear passenger barely spins; rear driver spins fine
Before you start...
turn both wheels by hand. If both turn freely, this a non issue. Many items can cause a TXT to run "slightly slower". if both wheels spin when rear wheels are lifted off ground, one brake is not dragging bad enough to slow cart. more info on batteries, sol, controller, tire pressure........ |

Re: Rear passenger barely spins; rear driver spins fine
Thanks for the contributions. I took off the brakes on the rear passenger side and adjusted the star wheel. Unfortunately that wasn’t the solution (maybe it’s part of the solution but the problem isn’t fixed).
One thing I noticed, and this may be a rookie’s oversight, but the rear passenger drum had nice grooves while the driver’s side drum had grooves that are worn out. I switched the drums and now the other side has the problem. So the good drum is now on the driver’s side and the bad one is on the passenger side. Now the axle on the passenger’s side spins (as you’d guess) but the driver’s side doesn’t. So my next question is ... would you expect the cart to give the good wheel enough power to move the cart at all? What I’m finding is that the bad drum spins, the good drum doesn’t, and the cart won’t move at all. So if simply replacing the bad drum is the answer then that’s simple. I just don’t want to spend the money and time if y’all don’t think that’s likely it. |
