Default A1 and A2. Sayyyy whaatt

Silly question, but if you jack the golf cart up rear tires are off the ground. Depress the throttle a little, and put your voltmeter on A1 and read vdc, them put it on A2 and read vdc what should I be looking for ? And should they read the same? Would quarter throttle = approximately 9vdc on a 36v cart? I would think they would have close to same but I am getting wide differences from motor to motor (or at least the 4 I checked).

Thanks for helping

The voltage drop across A1 to A2 is going to vary greatly depending on drive type (series or sepex) and how the high current circuit of a specific cart is wired.

In a sepex drive, full battery pack voltage is applied between A1 and A2, but in a series drive the field (aka stator) windings are in series with the armature, so only a portion of the battery pack voltage is applied between A1 and A2.

Not quite sure what you are looking for with these voltage measurements.

Not any easy ways to check motors. Fortunately, the motor has a low failure rate and the most common failures are brushes and bearings.

An Ohmmeter between A1 & A2 will tell you if the brushes are gone and you'll hear the bearing.

Ohmmeter between F1 & F2 (aka S1 & S1) will tell you if the field is open.

Attached are sure fire ways to test both types.
