2011 Yamaha Engine Noise
I need some help determining what the source of the engine noise on this engine is. It sounds like a rattle or chatter. I have not been able to determine where the noise is coming from. See link below:

Re: 2011 Yamaha Engine Noise
I have already replaced the cam but I did notice that the crankshaft journals showed some signs of excessive heat.

Re: 2011 Yamaha Engine Noise
Cell phone video tends to compress the audio making it difficult to diagnose the sound.
Muffler welds tend to be higher in frequency. Tinty like a cheap chime. Valves are a tick sound. The knock that is deeper in the engine will be the teeth on the crank, cam, and balancer shaft. You wont be able to see anything wrong with the teeth but they are worn. |

Re: 2011 Yamaha Engine Noise
I think that you are on to something. I am going to go ahead and replace the crankshaft and the balance shaft. I have already replaced the cam. Maybe that is the answer.

Re: 2011 Yamaha Engine Noise
PROBLEM SOLVED! Turns out it was excessive wear in the gears that drive the balance shaft and the camshaft. Had to replace the cam, crank, and balancer to fit it.
