Tie Rod End Thread Size/Pitch
Does anyone know off the top of their head what the tie rod end thread size/pitch is on a 1980 Marathon? I've been meaning to just take one off and go to the hardware store to match it up, but haven't gotten around to it yet. The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking to switch to heim joints. Should be 2 right-hand thread and 2 left-hand, but as to the size I'm clueless.

Re: Tie Rod End Thread Size/Pitch
Bringing this thread back from the dead! I just installed a 5" lift on my cart, so it's time to replace the tie rod ends. I figured out the thread pitch is 9/16-18...but apparently no one makes a heim joint in that pitch. I CAN find a 5/8-18 heim; since the tie rod is slotted at the ends, do you think I can just stretch the ends open a bit? If no, would there be a better solution (other than OEM tie rod ends)?

Re: Tie Rod End Thread Size/Pitch
You could always make tie rods from some DOM and weld on bungs. Pretty easy fab project. Or have a local welding shop make them. Have you had TRE failures on your cart?

Steering is extremely sloppy, and TRE's are original and shot. I was just trying to save some money by buying Heim's at $6/piece compared to TRE's at $40/piece.

Ah. I'm from the 4x4 world. Thought you wanted hiems for the strength/cool factor. Can you cross reference them and find a cheaper option? Is $40 a piece from ezgo? May be able to find an aftermarket match.

Re: Tie Rod End Thread Size/Pitch
$40 is from every vendor I've found. The biggest problem is that apparently 9/16-18 is a very uncommon size, which is giving me trouble finding ANY alternative that will work. I did consider using a solid round stock and threading both ends, then using a female heim of a more common size; may have to go that route since I have limited tools for fabrication.

Re: Tie Rod End Thread Size/Pitch
Most all stock car parts suppliers have the threaded sleeves your looking for (for 5/8 heims) Speedway motors / Coleman machine. Hope this don't get me in trouble.
