Multi Voltage Solenoid
I was cruising eBay and saw a solenoid that advertises 12-72v. Its a 400A/800A unit. How can one solenoid run on all these voltages?
Here is the listing title--12/24/36/48/72 Volt 400A Contactor/Solenoid. |

Re: Multi Voltage Solenoid
You tell them what voltage you want when you order it.
This just keeps them from having all the e bay adds. They olnly pay for one add and not a dozen are so fo each voltage. It will handle 400amp all day long it will handle the in rush of 600 for 2 seconds. |

Re: Multi Voltage Solenoid
Oooohhh I see. That makes more sense. As far as I understand it 48v solenoid will run on 36v with the right resistor and that's about it for mixing voltages.

Re: Multi Voltage Solenoid
I used to have a 72v ezgo years ago. If I remember correctly, you can run the solenoid at 36, 48, etc (it's rated voltage) but still have 72v +++ for your battery pack voltage. Solenoid would need amp capacity of battery pack.
This is after a few 7 and 7's so take that into consideration. 72v cart still my avatar. |

Re: Multi Voltage Solenoid
Lets say you have a 48 volt coil solenoid and you put 36 volts to it which is easley done by grounding the activation circuit to the 36 volts in the cart.
Yes the solenoid will more than likely close but your heating the contacts up more than should be because your not using the coil's full voltage to close them. This will cause a failure sooner are later. As far as the solenoid goes you can run what ever voltage you want through the 2 bigger terminals. 12,24,36,48,60 and 72 so on. |
