Default 1st cart - build project with pics - lots of questions

Hello All,

Just bought my first cart. I have been lurking and asking questions for a little while, trying to figure out what to buy.

This is a 2001 ezgo that needs to be transformed into a hill climbing ATV.

Please jump in after reading my next few posts and steer me in the right way.

Default Motor And Controller

I would really like to go for a 72v AC system like the one in this ad on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/EZGO-STREET-LEGA...d=p3286.c0.m14

I am guessing that they are a dealer for these guys http://www.hiperformancegolfcars.com/

They may have a 600 amp controller but I suspect that the 400 amp one would be sufficient to spin the wheels. Any advice on this part?

Default Batteries

The batteries that came with the cart are completely shot. Maybe 1/2 mile range on the flat, and I have precious little flat.

I like what I have read about sealed AGM batteries. Need 6 for the 72v goal. Something like this?

Default Tires

I have stone lined trails on the property and don't want the cart to get any wider. Not much mud, just lots of rocks to deal with. However one of the members posted about some blemished tires that seem a tempting price.

ATV-18 TSL ATV 27X9.00-10 184 $ 20.00
although they didnt seem rated for enough weight figuring for 4 200lb guys, lifted cart and batteries.

ATV-21 TSL ATV 27X12.00-10 108 $ 20.00
these might be rated for higher weight but be hard to steer?

or just go with a ready cart made setup and a smaller lift
like this tire set from a site sponsor

Default Lift Kit -

Help needed here for sure. Wasn't planning on $700 for this item, but I want good control and clearance for all the rocks. The cart has leaf springs and shocks already and I hate mushy coil over stuff in jeeps. Do I want a system that replaces the shocks?

Is the steering box on the Allsport really needed?

Maybe this one is better for center clearance in the front and also has a solid brush guard that I need, but it separates out the front wheels too far?

Are those kits worth 4x the cost of a kit like this one? Will the lack of long travel increase the chance of a roll over?

Default Walmart batteries

Anyone running walmart specials? I am not building the cart for sale and would like as many years out of the batteries as possible but these are undeniably cheap for 125ah.

if you don't want your cart any wider then you don't want the lift in the 2nd pic. but the ride is awsome

I was told All Sports doesn't make that Ultra lift anymore, but they make a 8' long travel.

Here is the first question I have to ask when someone comes into our shop.

"What is your budget"?????

If you want to build the whole cart for $750.00, then a nice long travel kit is out.

I would like to not exceed 4400. 500 of which I have already spent on this ezgo.

I took the batteries out this afternoon. They were Exide brand and way heavier than I thought that they would be. The walmart batteries are not as tall and not nearly as heavy.
