Re: how to tell difference in G2 and G9
From the pictures, I see that some parts have been taken out/replaced. But if you say that your ignitor has 9 pins, then it must be a G9. But what is the big deal in identifying whether G2 or G9? All parts are interchangeable. Basically same hp, same displacement, etc.

I also was gonna guess G-2 from the groove in the front cowl trim, as well as the indentation in the F/R lever panel, frame is black in front of the Battery/airbox, i'd be lookin closer there for a serial# since its not painted Red, BTW clean that crap off your oil light, may need it one day,lol..

Re: how to tell difference in G2 and G9
I think it is a toss up between a G9 and a G8. The front roof pillar does not in any way resemble a G2. G2 pillars are inserted in the "glove compartment" not placed above the cowl frame.

Bertha, this is a G9. I can tell from front nose. I have a G9 as well and the G8 has a more slowped front nose like a G16... G8 also has a 1 peice front nose...

Re: how to tell difference in G2 and G9
G2, G8, G9 what's the difference? I had a G14 with a G2 motor. Sold it to some guy who never cared whether engine was a G14 or a G2. It was running and was used in a golf course where speed is not required or even controlled.

Re: how to tell difference in G2 and G9
I understand Bertha! There is a considerable amount of difference in carts... Especially when it comes down to ordering parts! The "parts guy" would like to know what model he is looking at... There are alot of options to different carts opposed to others... I cant put a G1 engine in a G9. Can't use a lift from a G16 on a GMax... Get it?

Re: how to tell difference in G2 and G9
Carbs of G2 and G9 are the same. G1s and G3s are different. They are 2 cycles. I have been in the golf cart rental business for years. I should know. I will share another secret. Yamaha ignitors or igniters are very pricey. Use instead an EZGO or Hyundai ignitors (5 wire configuration). In fact EZGO and Hyundai ignitors are even interchangeable. I use a ClubCar spring seat (the inner cam on the secondary clutch) on my Hyundai. I use a 2-stroke EZGO starter gen on my 4 cycle/stroke Melex. I use an EZGO solenoid on my Yamahas. They are a lot cheaper.
Have you noticed that almost all golf carts use the same hitachi VR on the older models? But carbs interchangeability has some degree of restriction. You cannot use an EZGO on a Yamaha. Or maybe you can. Just have a new manifold fabricated (out of aluminum or fibra) to fit the bolt and carb opening. You can have a thousand and one possibilities. Let's open our minds and remove our blinders. (did you know that you can get at least 30% top speed increase by replacing your tranny gears from the stock 12:1 to a 8:1? Expensive? Well, cheaper than a big block!). |
