G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
I don't think anything exists for the g9, but didn't plowman or someone make a posi kit for newer yamahas at one time? Just wondering if I could maybe switch out my rear end for something newer if it allowed me to install a posi. I'm just throwing this out there. Has anyone done something similar or have any ideas? I'm not interested in welding the rear, gotta keep it a nice ride in all conditions.

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
I started a similar thread once like this one. A guy did make a custom locker. I'd love to have one.

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
Im hoping we can get more people talking about these things. We are coming up with ways to make some significant power, so we need some good ways to put more of that power on the ground.

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
I agree Morgan. Posi is needed, especially off road and climing hills in loose terrain. No posi for the G2/G9. Plowman's makes one for the G16 and up.

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
Anyone know the difference in a g16 and up rear end and a g9 rear end? Meaning, could one swap those rear ends out or is there a major difference.

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
They are different.
G16 http://yamahamc.partsandwarranty.com...=731695&Page=1 G9 http://yamahamc.partsandwarranty.com...1078883&Page=1 The way they bolt in is similar, but I believe the rear suspension points are different and the swingarm is different. I haven't seen anyone upgrade from a G2/9 to a G16 transaxle. I've been looking for a G16 transaxle for a long time. Other than entire carts, no luck. At that point I might as well switch carts. The EZGO ME29 is a good rear transaxle, very common. At one time I had one, but the modifications needed to use it was more than I was willing to do at the time. Those will need a 3/4 link type setup, or a cradle from a TXT and then fab the forward swivel mount. I suppose you could modify it to fit the G9 swingarm easier than fabbing a whole new setup. |

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
I've never seen pics of how a g16 or newer is set up in the rear. Is it not a swing arm like a g9? Would it not be possible to mount a g16 or newer transaxle to a g9 swing arm? Anyone have any pics of something newer than my g9?

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
I would guess with your fab skills , no problem. The big problem might be finding one. It might be easier to find a G16 with a blown engine and just start there.

Re: G9/Yamaha locker or posi?
Kinion had a locking unit made for the G2 rear end. But, it's a full time type locker. It is probably better though than welding the gears. I've actually been thinking about making one for my G1 with the G2 rear differential.
I wouldn't do it for any on road use but should be fine on dirt roads and really helpful as said, on hills and loose terrain. |
