IMHO If it is burning a lot of oil I would stop and rebuild it as so not to do any damage to other parts. If it is not burning a lot of oil I would say ENJOY.

I just brought it so I haven't really gone out and test it to see if it burning oil or not. But I do notice splash of oil all over on the head near the valve cover.

I took two photo of the valve cover area and posted in another thread over at http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...ml#post1264605

The oil ring goes first on these often, so they still run but burn oil. If they get a lot of blowby they will puke it into the airbox. However it should not oil the filter unless the oil was overfilled. You can never put more than 1 qt in these, you should change oil and put 1 qt in and check the stick on level ground, then never put more than what the stick shows with 1 qt. If you don't have too much oil and it is puking oil into the airbox, it likely has a lot of blowby. They will get a film of oil in there normally, but not oil in the bottom. You can ring them but like with anything it is a bandaid fix, while a new bore is like new.

If it is weak on hills check the drive belt, it should be over 1" wide. They are 1 3/16 new and they run best with a newer one far as power.

I ordered a complete tune up kit last week and got it yesterday. It new plug, two belts, air filter, fuel filter, and tie down strap for the air box.

That was the reason I wanted to do the compressor test before putting the kits on it because if I did needed to rebuild the engine then I didn't want to put the new kits on it until I complete rebuilding the engine.

I wanted to keep it as stock as much possible so maybe I will just go ahead degrease the engine and put the new kits in. Then order a new valve cover gasket and replace that too since oil may be leaking from there.

You mentioned about oil filter in your post? Where is that located at?

Thank you

Bill

4-cycle Yamaha golf cars have no oil filter (or pressurized oil system).

When I re-read his post again, I think I read it wrong first and that he meant there shouldn't be oil in air filter.

I knew there no oil filter on this engine, I thought he meant a one way filter to prevent oil into air box, sort like a PCV valve.

There is a valve, its on the passenger side front area of the motor. The hose has a "fatter segment" about half-way up (me too), thats the valve.

After checking on some prices on rebuild kits.

130 dollars for the upper cylinder rebuild kits which are gaskets, piston, and rings and about 266 dollar for the whole engine rebuild kits.

I think I will just buy a 6 dollar valve gasket and replace it then de-grease the engine giving it a good bath and run it for a month or two to see how much oil I lose before deciding if I should rebuild it or not. Important thing is that now I know the compression is at a "acceptable" level for this engine.

Also I should focus more on eliminating surface rusts on the frame and apply some anti-rust paint on it. I do see some rust on bottom but it hard to tell with lot of oils all over in the engine bay.

Thank you all for your feedback but keep adding them if you got more! I am all ears! (well eyes since I am Deaf )

Do you own a copy of Yamaha Service Manual? Could you look it up and if there a picture of it then post the page number here?

I tried to find it but couldn't locate it. I wonder if it was removed or since the tubing in it doesn't look like factory install hose.

Thank you

The one way valve is in this pic, coming out of the side of the valve cover, going down to that white plastic twist tie!!
