Quick question about my 1998 DS Gas
Let's pretend someone got a little fraustrated and broke the entire plastic governor shield because he didn't have the right driver to remove the taptite 6-32 screw. After breaking this off to easily remove the neglected carburetor, I noticed a small spring at the front which I can only assume is the governor. Do I need to order a whole new shield cover or can this thing just be ignored? Thanks in advance for for helping a first time cart owner with a limited amount of tools!

This part is what I pretty much trashed in case you were wondering. I'm new to these so maybe this will clear it up a bit.

Not really sure which parts are now broken/missing. But yes, replace them.

Thanks for the welcome. So far this place has been a wealth of information. Cart is in pretty rough shape as far as seats missing but who doesn't love a good project, right?

If you are talking about the black plastic cover, you can leave that off. It's really just a guard to keep golfers from messing with the rented carts on a course. The metal bracket under that plastic cover and the little spring are necessary.

I'll take a picture because the spring and left side of the housing is still intact. Maybe I dodged a bullet and saved some money.

Gasket side and spring are still intact. What do you think? |

Re: Quick question about my 1998 DS Gas
As I said the black plastic cover doesn't matter. Many carts are running around perfectly fine without it. By they way those 2 screws are T-15 torx heads. The spring looks a little worse for wear, it can be replaced but you might get by with just re-bending the carb end a bit - to tighten it up. That's your throttle return spring. Bracket looks like it's fine. Should be an intact gasket on both sides of that bracket. So long as they are there and not torn, should be fine.
