What motor is in your newer cart?
The 350 carbs have different jets and pilots and a 290 pedal start carb will not run right. Will work as a temp fix just to see if the motor runs but it’s going to run lean and won’t idle properly.

Bigger carb = bigger jets etc, would make it rich not lean

I thought he said somewhere this was a 350 cart, but I must have been thinking of another thread. Most of the key start motors are 350 or 400. Using a 290 carb (most pedal start carts) on either of those would make it lean.

I borrowed a compression tester and it turns out there only about 50psi.

How hard is it to rebuild one of these motors? I saw different rebuild kits on ebay, some were 89 and most were 229.

Anyone done this before and any suggestions? Thanks

Some of the key start 350s have a compression release that makes it easier for the starter to turn the motor. You can often hear the release mechanism clicking when the engine is cranking.

Does the motor have a yellow sticker on top of it that says W/O ACR?

Like this... If not? 71 lbs is the spec for a new engine, so your still within range. (barely)

No, I don't have that sticker. It is the 350 motor. Just reading some of the comments. I have bought many carts 100+( credible source, nothing fishy) over the last 10 years and they are all 350 motors. Never had a 290 or 400. Of all the carts I've gotten, I've never had a bad motor. Its usually something simple, and after testing this and that I can solve it. But this one has me going crazy.

My other cart I use in our orange grove has close to 90psi. I tested it to compare. It has roughly 5000 hours on it.
I bought a limo club car for 200 with a motor, the roof, seats , etc, parts are worth that, but it had a motor. My plan is to take the motor from it and exchange it. problem is the $200 cart has no dash or steering wheel. Why they took it off, who knows. But is there a way to jump this cart from the fuse box area to see if the motor is good? When I spin the clutch by hand there is a lot of resistance. Hopefully that translates to compression.

If I were going to rebuild the motor on the other cart, how hard is that. I see rebuild kits for around $200 on ebay. I still hate to go through that trouble and it not be the issue.

Two reasons it may not have that sticker. Either it does have ACR, or the sticker may have fallen off.
Like I said before, if it does have ACR you can usually hear the ACR mechanism clicking while the engine is cranking. It’s kicking the exhaust valve open at a certain time to release compression to make it easier to turn the engine. This means you get a low compression reading while cranking.

I wouldn’t trust a $200 rebuild kit as far as I could throw it.

Aren't all pedal start carts w/o ACR? and all key starts with it, so no sticker?

Is rebuilding the motor something that can be done at home shop? I thought for some reason they are pressed and had to be sent off to be repaired?
