Engine wants to run backwards after stopping

Like the title says the engine seems to want to run after I stop. What adjustment am I missing.?

governor is set to stock setting

I do have the spring zip tied. Just loose enough it doesn’t hit the rev limiter while driving. Everything else is stock

Drives me nuts

Your throttle plate is not closing all the way when you release the pedal. Either the throttle stop is out of adjustment or the cable between the governor and carb is sticking, holding it open slightly.

Thank you, I will lube up the cable. Then just make sure the throttle plate in the carb is shutting all the way when pedal is depressed?

It should shut all the way when its released, not depressed.

The cable should move *very* freely. If theres any resistance, just replace it. They're not expensive.

And there is a screw that stops the throttle from closing too far. Loosen that screw until the throttle plate is fully closed and not touching it, then tighten the screw back so it touches it plus 1/4 turn. The purpose of the screw is to stop the throttle plate from wearing/damaging the carb housing when it slams shut

I’ve read that excessive carbon build up on the piston and head will cause your symptom,
Pour a 1/2 ounce (cap full or so) of Seafoam in the spark plug hole, reinstall the plug, turn it over a couple times without the plug wire on,
Let it sit for 15 minutes, reconnect the plug wire, start it up and run it for 10 minutes to clean out the carbon!

Just make sure to do it outside, I’ve heard it smokes like a b***h!
