Engine can’t turn over
Occasionally, that is. It’s like the engine is stuck for a moment and the starter just spins in the belt. Is this a known issue? Anything recommended to fix it?

Re: Engine can’t turn over
Your belt is either too worn or too loose. I'd try tightening if that doesnt work get a new belt.

Engine can’t turn over
To best describe this, would be to say it’s having a hard time getting past top dead center on the compression stoke. Sometimes the pulley slips, sometimes it just stalls the starter until the engine starts to crank. New belt, very tight.

Engine can’t turn over
But will that cause the starter to have an inability to turn over the engine?

Re: Engine can’t turn over
From what I've read recently, yes. My carryall had a problem like that, occasionally it would have a hars time turning the motor past the compression stroke. I even tried a new starter/generator with the same results. Never tried slightly loosening the belt though, it's certainly worth a shot!

Re: Engine can’t turn over
I had the same problem after putting a cheap Stelleng belt on mine. Went back to the old belt and hasn't had a problem since.

Re: Engine can’t turn over
Thanks for the heads up. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a cheap starter that’s wearing out after a year

Re: Engine can’t turn over
OEM starters are best, aftermarket is a crapshoot even when buying new.

Re: Engine can’t turn over
OEM start generators are the best for sure, but they're pricy. It's also crucial to make sure you use an OEM belt, part number 101916701. I was going to suggest that maybe the pulley was worn, as this is very common as the starter generators get old. But since you said it was an aftermarket starter generator, I know it can't be old enough to have a worn pulley. They don't last that long.
