Default Re: cw clutch on ccw motor

Hello again
Thought I would let you know how everything turned out
I received a new 1997+ primary clutch.
I opened the clutch up and found all three buttons had springs.
I removed 2 of the springs as it was mentioned that club car had gone to using only one spring, I then moved the last spring to the opposite side so that the motor under load would not be pushing the button into the spring but against the base metal.
The new clutch works much much better then the old clutch.
But I get a metallic ringing from the clutch when the starter is turning the motor over and sometimes when the motor shuts off as the peddle is lifted,
"the ringing keeps time with the motor revolutions"and quits as soon as the motor starts. This may or may not have been caused by my removal of two of the springs allowing the 2 lose buttons to slap.
Other then the springs I did not see anything else in the clutch that could be considered directional.
Again thanks

I can't tell any difference at all between them. They look identical to me. Maybe the direction of the spring that pushes it open is reversed? I didnt take the 93 clutch down that far to see but that's maybe the only difference I can think of. Otherwise they look exactly the same to me

The 99 is on the left (lighter color) and the 93 is on the right (darker color)

Edit: you can see how the bushings are worn down on opposite sides depending on which way the clutch was running. But think that's a wear difference not a design difference
I agree with you. I see no differences at all.

I may get around to putting all the springs back into the clutch to see if that will make the noise goes away
As far as I can tell, not moving the springs to the opposite side should not affect how the clutch operates, but may over time cause the spring to wear the aluminum a little faster then if they were reversed.
But I will quantify my observations by saying that this is the first time I have worked on this type of drive.
And fairtax was right the generator pulley is slightly larger in diameter.
thanks
