Well...here's an update: Got new PC, installed, tried to fire it up, spark seems weak, less backfiring but no go.

Don't know what the heck is going on, going to order new Solenoid and voltage regulator now, hoping I won't need a new Ignitor.

I'm wondering if there is any sub for the Ignitor...

Sounds like a timing issue 2 me. You said the timing belt was "close" ?

Hey kg, thanks, yeah the belt is actually dead on, if i move it over either way one tooth it will be off. It was replaced with rebuild less than 100hrs ago (have hour meter on cart).

I'm really stumped here, I guess I need to just start replacing parts, hate doing that in this economy. Thought for sure it was the PC, but now it won't even run on the one plug as before.

I framed on the solenoid (in frustration) now it's fouled up, may as well get a new regulator while I'm at it. I'll post an update whenever that happens.

Please don't take this the wrong way but consider the cost of all the new parts you are going to replace (that might be good) just to be replacing because you don't know how to properly troubleshoot the problem and the cost of taking it to a repair shop.
It might be cheaper to have it repaired by a trained professional.

you might do some research on here for info about using a hei module instead of the original igniter. they only run about $20. crash certainly has a valid point. at least you could have them diagnose the problem.

Thanks guys, none taken, cart is a '93, Solenoid and VR look original so wouldn't hurt to change them, cost is not that bad. I came here to get good info so I wouldn't have to take it anywhere, trust issues, someone always trying to sell you something.

In fact, I try not to rely on taking anything anywhere or calling somebody for something most of the time. The Internet is a wealth of info at our disposal, and being in the AC, plumbing, electrical field helps for things around the house.

Will definitely look into the hei module trick before I shell out that kind of money for a little plastic box with some wires hanging out of it. Thanks for all the help.

Check spark plug gap. Could be too close/too small.

in my experience back fire through carb is timing or intake valve is open on compression stroke or build up carbon making a hot spot.

Hey thanks, yeah, the more I think about it, I'm probably looking at pulling the head and looking at the valves, just hard to believe since they looked so good at rebuild.

Also, when it broke, it was running kind of bad then it didn't want to run. Still need a new Solenoid never the less, adjustment tool didn't work on it very well
