marathon w/ 295 cold weather problem

Ran like a champ, until I lifted the rear end a little por better payload handling. Now I can't get it to choke correctly to start the motor. If its cold out ie: 40F or below, forget it, I have to warm it up in the garage before it will start. rebuilt the carb, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, new plugs, just cant figure it out. I'm wondering if maybe lifting the rear end tilted the motor some and the carb does'nt like it?
Anybody have any ideas??

That makes no sence, that little bit of lift should do nothing. Is the choke closing tight when you pull it?, Is the fuel pump pumping fuel to the carb?

Yes, the pump is brand new a pumping great, I just dont get it

And yes the choke is closing all the way.

When have you adjusted the valves last, the 295`s dont stsrt well in the cold if the valves are to tight, make sure they are at least 4ths, I go 6ths, if that dont help you need to replace plugs....... if that dont hepl its time to get into the carb for a good jet cleaning



Mine will start in about 2 seconds no matter how cold, yours should too

Plugs are new, carb is clean and rebuilt. But I have never done the valves, I will do them this week and take some pictures for you. Was wondering if since its not the fuel pump (the old would not pump so I got a new one) could it be not generating a pulse to the pump from the engine??

Sometimes the pulse hose will get oil trapped in it, let it hang down to see if oil drains out if so try to start again

If you can believe it the brand new float pin broke inside the carb bowl. got a new one and i starts great now. Then I adjusted the valves ( they were way too tight). Runs even better with the valve adjustment. I should be good to go now.
