Axle issues
I bought my cart used... It was well used and pretty rough. Since I bought it I noticed a pretty good dent in the axle pan. While working on the cart over the past couple years, I noticed a crack in the housing but it wasn't until I changed the axle fluid that it started leaking. It seems to be leaking where the axle goes into the cast housing.
You can actually see grease marks on the axle tube that look like it's moving around. I assume replacement is probably best but does anyone else have any ideas on how I can drag this out a bit longer, or doctor it up? It's been like this for the entire time that I've owned it, just don't know how much longer it will go on. Of course one of those 2 speed axles would be awesome but the price tag is a little steep. |

Re: Axle issues
While you can't weld the axle tube to the center section (aluminum & steel) you could fill that hole in the center section with weld. It could perhaps buy you some time. Since the oil in there isn't pressurized, clean it real good with brake cleaner & run a bead of RTV around the tube

Re: Axle issues
It looks like I could drive the pin out and remove the axle but aluminum takes a lot of heat to weld so I was worried about warping where the axle goes in and making the leak worse. I could drill the end of the crack, groove it out and make multiple passes but wasn't sure if inwould make it worse.

Re: Axle issues
I would just keep it full of fluid.

Re: Axle issues
check with local golf cart places...
Find good one used (maybe with bad bearings or stripped axle or hub) Might find a donor cart cheap.. Sometimes a junk cart is less expensive than a part. Craigslist?? Good luck!! |

Re: Axle issues
I just left my local golf cart store (and forum sponsor) East Coast Custom Golf Carts with a reasonably priced donor part and all the parts to end up with a nice rebuilt rear end. Glad to have such a great honest shop local to me.
