Default Need for some speed - 98 Club Cart 48v

Hey all! So i have enjoyed my 98 club cart for the last few weeks. I clocked it yesterday and it goes 17 mph with crappy tires that bounce because they are out of round. The guy who sold it to me is bringing me new tires this week to replace which may give it another 1-2 mph. I know there is a lot of things I can do but i am lost of where to start. To my knowledge it has an upgraded stock motor to get it to the speed it is at. It accelerates fast from the start and after a few seconds it is maxed out. I do not see any upgrades to controller (if there is even one) but it does have 4Guage wires to the batteries. Instead of lifting it and putting on new tires and what not, is there anything else I can do? Should i buy a controller and get a voltage reducer? Would that even make a difference? I am a newbie, any help or advice would be great.

Ms506s,
Welcome to the forum.

There are more ways to increase speed in these cars than you can believe. I suggest reading through some of the threads where people have upgraded their cars to see what they did.

As an example I did a controller, motor and solenoid upgrade to one of my cars, and increased the speed from 20 to 27 MPH. That upgrade cost about $1200.

While you are reviewing some other upgrade threads, send us your Vin #, and also pictures of your motor and drive system components.

We would need all of that information in order to assist you.

Awesome! Will do when I get home. It's got an upgraded motor now from club car but I'll look and see if I can find any more details or just take pictures of everything and upload them here.

That looks like the OEM 3.75HP motor. Does it have a white tag with green writing on it? I can't see the tag in the photo. Those motors were good for around 18-19 mph so it sounds like it's working like it should. I like the Admiral MOT-A1 motor for a Club Car series car like yours. The motor alone should get you 21-22 mph and it's good for up to 500 amps if you ever decide to upgrade the controller to get more torque. It's an awesome setup. It's actually my go-to setup for all of my local builds on series cars.

Yeah i believe the tag is there, it is hard to get pictures with these carts not lifted. I think my first move is to get the lift and big tires. Then maybe upgrade the controller and the F&R switch. The only thing is I don't really want a lift for performance, most of our driving is 99% flat and on road. Are there any not so sophisticated lifts for cc's that are inexpensive, i cant find any!

Do a four inch "Z" lift.
Keeps your stock front suspension and just lifts the cart some for bigger tires.
You will need to cut your frame, but it's about the easiest and most affordable lift.

A lot of people aren't big fans of the spindle lifts.
Squirrelly steering and parts wear out a lot faster.
But if you're on paved roads mostly it should be ok.
